Although we are a single nation, we are also a massive and varied one, and one of the top determinants of every American resident's quality of life, economic status, rights and responsibilities is the state in which you reside. From the 40 million residents of California to the less than 600,000 of Wyoming, every one of us is deeply affected by the state level, and not enough of us pay enough attention to those who govern us and set the rules of our states.
